As an experienced lecturer I am available to give illustrated
wildlife, landscape and photographic talks. Each show has been carefully put
together to provide the audience with visual stimulation and factual information
and all are delivered in a humorous, friendly style. Bookings need to be made
well in advance as my calendar is often very full and please note I do tend
to avoid lectures during May and June. Please feel free to come and meet me
in person at one of the following venues

Illustrated talks currently available
- ‘Yorkshire's
Wild Beauty’
- A
digital AV looking at some of the major habitats in the county and the wide
variety of birds and mammals that inhabit them. Coast, moorland, dales, farmland,
rivers and estuaries are all covered.
- 'American
Adventure'
- A compilation
of several birding trips to the USA, this talks covers a wide variety of habitats
and a vast amount of birds. The talk follows a line from the south-west corner
of the US and finishes in the northeast states around New England.
-
- 'Desert
Birding'
- A look
at the birdlife in three different desert habitats across three different
continents; southern USA, North Africa and the Middle East. A surprisingly
rich and varied birdlife exists amongst these seemingly inhospitable landscapes.
Contains some excellent shots of birds as well as landscape.
- ‘Techniques
of Bird and Wildlife Photography’
- A not
too technical look at how to photograph wildlife, concentrating on birds,
but covering some of the techniques and equipment used. This is just being
put together at the request of Leeds RSPB Members Group. This will probably
become a favourite with some of the bird clubs as most birders nowadays seem
to also carry cameras. Its also a great excuse just to show John's best bird
shots from around the globe.
- ‘A
Scottish Tour’
- A trip
around Scotland including the Inner and Outer Hebrides, Orkney & Shetland
in search of birds. Currently covers most of the Scottish specialities, including
Dotterel, Ptarmigan, Capercaillie, Corncrake and include Black Grouse. Another
one that has proved popular with RSPB Members' Groups.
- ‘Wild
life, wild places’
- This
title allows me to compile a talk using a selection of my most recent images
and photo trips. This is very popular with natural history clubs, RSPB groups
and camera club audiences and the talk content is always tailored towards
the audience needs.
- ‘Light
& the Landscape’
- John's
approach to landscape photography. 160 slides illustrating technique, composition,
exposure and the basics of landscape photography. A popular talk with camera
clubs and suitable for beginners and experienced photographers alike.
- ‘Batting
for Wakefield’
- A look
at the life and work of a licensed batworker. Covers the history, lifestyle
and all local species of bats. Very popular talk and the most requested one.
- ‘Xpanded
Images’
- A selection
of John's panoramic images taken with the Hasselblad Xpan. Something different
for your camera club members!
